For Immediate Release: January 31, 2008
Bet Havarim's next Shabbat Worship Service will be conducted on Friday evening, February 15th beginning in the Social Hall of St. David's Church in Dewitt. Leading the 7:30 PM Shabbat service will be Bet Havarim's Cantor, Hanita Blair, assisted by members of Bet Havarim's Shabbat Committee. An Oneg Shabbat reception follows the service. All members of the community are cordially invited to attend all worship services.
Marty Morganstein, a Bet Havarim member recently said, "Hanita Blair has given our services a level of spirituality and warmth that I personally have found to be extremely rewarding and uplifting," adding, "I encourage everyone to attend and partake in our Shabbat services."
"We look forward to welcoming, as our guest speaker, Rev. William C. Redfield, the Rector of Trinity Episcopal Church in Fayetteville who will speak on "The Things That Are Important," said Bet Havarim's Shabbat committee chairman, Mel Shindler. Rev. Bill Redfield has been Rector of Trinity Episcopal Church for 14 years. As a Clinical Social Worker, he has long been interested in the interface of psychology and religion and has been active for many years in interfaith work serving as President of the Board of "Interfaith Works." Redfield represents the Central New York Episcopal Diocese on the "Interfaith Roundtable." He is married to Cathy Dutch and has two children, Molly and Ben, who are being raised in the Jewish faith.
"Our Shabbat Committee has, over the past five years, welcomed guest speakers representing religion and academia and other walks of life whose messages have always resonated with our congregation," said Shindler, adding, "Bill Redfield, a long time friend of Bet Havarim will, I know, bring a message that all who attend the service will not only find spiritually uplifting but will give one and all much to contemplate on when they leave the Shabbat Worship service."
Bet Havarim is organized to promote and cultivate a love and understanding of our Jewish heritage, teachings, and values, and to ensure the continuation of the Jewish people. Our common strength is through communal worship, celebration, study, a commitment to Israel and its people, and the practice of mitzvoth by applying the principles of Judaism to the values and conduct of the individual, family and the society in which we live for the betterment of humanity.
