Bet Havarim Announces August Service

Bet Havarim's next Shabbat Worship Service will be conducted on Friday evening, August 17th, beginning at 7:30PM. Shabbat Services at Bet Havarim are held at St.David's Church in Dewitt. "We always extend a cordial invitation to the public to attend all of Bet Havarim's services", said Bet Havarim's Shabbat Committee Chair, Mel Shindler, "as well as to the Oneg Shabbat Reception which follows our Shabbat Services". Leading the August 17th Shabbat Service will be Bet Havarim's Cantorial Soloist, Hanita Margulies Blair, assisted by members of the Shabbat Committee.

During Bet Havarim's June Shabbat service baby Jeremy Andrew Albert, son of Meredith and Marc Albert, was given the Hebrew name of Chaim Yisrael ben Meir v' Masha Kyla. Taking part in the Baby-Naming Ceremony were, in addition to Meredith & Marc Albert, were grandparents Frann & Harvey Albert and Wendy & George Corbett. Doris Shapiro, aunt of Marc Albert and great-Aunt of Jeremy Andrew Albert, was welcomed to the Bimah to kindle the Shabbat candles. "We were honored by the presence of the families and friends of Meredith & Marc Albert and that Jeremy Andrew will henceforth honor the name of his Great-Uncle, Edward Shapiro," said Shindler who conducted the ceremony. The Oneg Shabbat Reception at the June Shabbat Service was sponsored by Grandparents, Frann & Harvey Albert.

"We also want to thank Shabbat Committee member, Cathy Dutch, who took the wonderful photographs of the ceremony which are now posted on Bet Havarim's website" (www.bethavarimsyr.org/Photos.html), added Shindler. Bet Havarim's website was designed by and is maintained by web-master Alan Marcum of Palo Alto, CA. He has been in the computer industry for over 25 years. Marcum is the son of BH members Helen & Stan Marcum. Marty Morganstein, member of Bet Havarim's Shabbat Committee added, "Since the founding of Bet Havarim in 2003 Alan has been a part of our community and these thanks are long overdue".

Plans for Bet Havarim's High Holy Day Services are currently being made by the High Holy Days committee, chaired by Toni Meltzer, and will be announced shortly.

Bet Havarim's Shabbat Services are conducted on the 3rd Friday evening of every month and are held in the social hall of St.David's Episcopal Church in Dewitt, located on Jamar Drive. From the intersection of Maple Drive and East Genesee Street (across from Wegmans') proceed south on Maple Drive and take the 4th right turn on to Jamar Drive. The church is located at the end of Jamar Drive. Off-street parking is available and the building is handicapped accessible.
