Bet Havarim's January Services

For Immediate Release: January 1, 2007

Bet Havarim's Shabbat Committee will sponsor the next Shabbat Worship Service on Friday evening, January 19th, beginning at 7:30PM. "Our Shabbat Services are conducted in the Social Hall of St. David's Episcopal Church in Dewitt," said Mel Shindler, Shabbat Committee Chair. Bet Havarim's Shabbat Worship services are conducted by Cantorial Soloist, Hanita Margulies Blair, with assistance from members of Bet Havarim's Shabbat Committee. An Oneg Shabbat reception is held following the services and the public is cordially welcome to all Bet Havarim services.

Featured at Bet Havarim's December Shabbat/Hanukkah service was guest speaker, Professor John Robert Greene of Cazenovia College. Also present at the December service were invited guests from Bet Havarim's host congregation, St. David's Church. "We were pleased to be able to welcome so many members of our community to our December service," said Shindler, adding, "Dr. Greene's talk was well received and enjoyed by all in attendance and we look forward to his return to Bet Havarim in the not-too-distant future."

Attending the service was Bet Havarim member, Marty Morganstein, who commented, "Dr. Greene's selected topic of 'Freedom and How It Has Been Defined Throughout History' was extremely relevant to the fact that we were celebrating the first night of the Hanukkah festival and honoring the freedom achieved through the revolt against Antiochus Epiphanes led by Mattathias and his sons."

Participating in the Hanukkah/Shabbat service were Bet Havarim Shabbat Committee members, Lynda and Jeff Fuchs who conducted the Hanukkah portion of the service, April Rando, Marty Levine, Zarita Hack, Harriet Tetley, and Marty Morganstein. "We also want to acknowledge that we are celebrating Hanita Blair's third year as our Cantor and to thank her for the warmth and spirituality she has brought to our services," said Shindler, "not only does she sing the liturgy and conduct Bet Havarim's Shabbat services but she teaches us as well for which we are extremely grateful," added Shindler.

Bet Havarim's Shabbat services are conducted at St. David's Episcopal Church located on Jamar Drive in Dewitt. Services are conducted on the third Friday evening of every month beginning at 7:30 PM. The public is cordially invited to Bet Havarim's Shabbat Services and to the Oneg Shabbat reception which follows the services.
