For Immediate Release: June 18, 2006

Bet Havarim's July 21st service will be held in the social hall of St.David's Church in Dewitt beginning at 7:30p.m. The Shabbat worship service will feature a talk by Susan Conover, Senior Volunteer Coordinator, of Hospice of Central New York. "We all know the vital role that Hospice plays in the care of terminally ill patients and Ms. Conover will further illustrate the part that volunteers play in achieving the level of care provided to patients enrolled in the Hospice program," said Bet Havarim Martin Levine. "I urge the public to attend our July 21st service to hear Ms. Conover's message," added Levine.

Services are coordinated by Shabbat committee chairperson, Mel Shindler, assisted by members Frann Albert, Anita Burrows, Zarita Hack, Marlene Holstein, Martin Levine, Don Kates, Helen Marcum, Marty Morganstein, April Rando, Delia Temes, and Harriet Tetley who read portions of the Shabbat worship service. Services are conducted by Bet Havarim's Cantorial Soloist, Hanita Margulies Blair. An Oneg Shabbat reception follows the service.

Bet Havarim's third anniversary was celebrated with a potluck dinner preceding the June 16th service. In welcoming remarks Bet Havarim founding member, Marty Morganstein, noted the progress that had been made since the first organizational meeting that was held on April 29, 2003. "We have certainly much to celebrate this evening," said Morganstein, adding, "From our first short prayer service booklet to our new Siddur, we have steadily evolved into a recognized member of the Central New York Jewish Community." Morganstein paid tribute to the part played by Cantorial Soloist, Hanita Blair by noting, "Hanita's role in conducting our services cannot be understated and the warmth and beauty of her voice has meant so much to our services."

BH's Torah Study group meets once monthly to study and discuss the Torah portion for that week. "We are encouraging our members to join our study group for not only a wonderful learning experience but for stimulating conversation as well," said group member Don Kates. BH's next Torah Study meeting will be held on Saturday morning, July 8th, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the home of David Kapell, 3814 Henneberry Rd., Jamesville. "With the exception of the July 4th and Labor Day holidays we will be meeting on the 1st Saturday of each month. Members of Bet Havarim's Torah Study group bring varying levels of knowledge of Torah to our meetings so whether you are a 'beginner' or an 'advanced student' you are absolutely welcome," continued Kates.
