The services are coordinated by Mel Shindler, chairman, Shabbat committee.
Following the February 17th worship service, a discussion of the next day's Torah Portion will be facilitated by Don Kates. The Torah Portion is Yitro, from the Book of Exodus, Chapters 18:1 . 20.23. An Oneg Shabbat Shabbat will also follow the worship service.
Bet Havarim recently announced the purchase of new Shabbat Siddurim (prayer books). The prayer books are published by the Reconstructionist Press and are the Shabbat Vehagim from the Kol Haneshamah series. "Since Bet Havarim's beginning nearly three years ago we have written our own services and have increasingly found ourselves relying on Liturgy and Prayer from Kol Haneshamah,"said Shindler. He added, "While we feature selected readings by authors such as Marge Piercy, Ruth Brin, Judy Chicago, Rabbi Sandy Sasso and others as well as liturgy and prayer from the other major streams of Judaism we have realized that the Kol Haneshamah siddur meets the needs and desires of our Havurah."
Bet Havarim is offering an opportunity to memorialize or honor loved ones as well as remembering specific meaningful life-cycle events by sponsoring the purchase of one or more of the Siddurim. "We will be placing a beautifully designed book plate in each Siddur," announced Marty Morganstein who will be coordinating the fund-raising effort for Bet Havarim. For more information contact Marty Morganstein. The donations are tax deductible and should be sent to Marty Morganstein, 307 Spring Street, Fayetteville, NY 13066.
