BET HAVARIM TO OBSERVE YOM HASHOAH

For Immediate Release: 4/26/05

Bet Havarim's May Shabbat service will be conducted on Friday evening, May 20th, at St. David's Episcopal Church in Dewitt. Services begin at 7:30 p.m. An Oneg Shabbat follows the service.

Bet Havarim's worship services are conducted by members of their Shabbat committee with prayers and song led by soloist, Hanita Blair.

"We will be observing Yom Hashoah at our May service," said Shabbat committee chair, Mel Shindler. He added, "We plan to have special readings and discussion which will be led by committee member, Don Kates." Bet Havarim will also begin a series of discussion of the Torah portion for the week in which the service will be conducted. "Don Kates will be facilitating the discussion and we are confident that those attending services will find this part of our services extremely interesting and informative."

Bet Havarim's first community Passover Seder was conducted on Sunday afternoon, April 24th. The event was co-chaired by Anita and Bob Burrows. Over 40 adults and children attended the Seder, which was conducted at "Tradition's at the Links." "The event was successful beyond our expectations," said the Burrows.

On Sunday afternoon, April 17th, Bet Havarim participated in a service in celebration of the life of Ilse Salomon, one of Bet Havarim's founding members. Members of Ilse's family organized the memorial service conducted at Syracuse University's Hendrick's Chapel. A reception followed the service. Members of Bet Havarim participating were Zarita Hack, Marty Morganstein, Mel Shindler and Delia Temes.

According to Marty Morganstein, "Ilse Salomon was one of our most dedicated members. From the beginning of Bet Havarim's organization she was involved in every facet of Bet Havarim. Her interests included membership on the Shabbat and finance committees to her participation in all of our services."
