Looking to connect your child to Judaism, but not sure about religious school?
Jewish Children's Learning Circle is a newly forming community-based Jewish education initiative for children in grades K-7. Open to all children, the program is focused on reaching out to non-synagogue affiliated Jewish families in the Greater Syracuse area.
The monthly program will address various aspects of Jewish learning, such as culture, history, holidays and festivals, moral and ethical values, and basic exposure to Hebrew. We'll have stories, songs, rituals, games, art projects, snacks, and a variety of other activities.
We envision this as a space to give unaffiliated and interfaith children an opportunity to learn about their culture and heritage and to spend time with other Jewish children. The JCLC will not provide sufficient instruction for bar or bat mitzvah preparation. For some families, it may be a gateway to synagogue-based religious and Hebrew school. For others it will be a bridge to Jewish learning to strengthen their sense of Jewish identity and feel more comfortable in Jewish spiritual and community settings throughout their lives. Hanah Ehrenreich, a progressive Jew and experienced childcare provider, will lead the teaching and activities, with support and input from parents. A volunteer committee of parents will work with Hanah to create the monthly program curriculum.
Sundays, April 10, May 15 and June 12 from 10 am - 12 noon
Menorah Park, 4101 East Genesee St., Syracuse
There will be a nominal sliding scale fee for participation to cover the cost of the lead teacher, refreshments, and materials.
Please contact Julie Gozan (gozanj -at- hotmail.com) or Andy Mager (andy -at- magers.info) with questions or to register your child(ren). (Note: make the obvious substitutation in the above two email addresses.)
